Discover THEALINGUA®: an innovative method combining education, theatre and foreign languages. Since 2010, our team has been working across a wide range of settings, from schools to universities. Every year, we carry out around one hundred language projects in schools, during international exchanges, and as part of professional training programmes.
Drawing on fifteen years of hands-on experience, Thealingua supports language acquisition through theatrical creation. The method is designed both for learning a target language and for multilingual workshops.
Participants are gradually guided towards creating in the target language or in several languages, through a process of breaking down and then reconstructing the learning context.
No specific language level is required. No previous theatre experience is required either.

The Thealingua Method is an innovative approach to teaching and learning foreign languages. At the crossroads of active teaching and learning methods and current insights from cognitive science in education, the method is designed for actors, educators and language teachers.
This training course enables participants to develop:
- Knowledge: a theoretical framework applied through Theatre and Language exercises
- Practical skills: the ability to create learning environments specifically designed for foreign-language teaching and learning
- Professional attitudes and self-awareness: a reflective understanding of one’s own positioning and role
The training is generally delivered in French and German.

Train in the method: Introduction to the Thealingua Method – Become a Thealinguist!
Would you like to deepen your practice and integrate the Thealingua Method into your educational projects?
- Review of the fundamentals: pedagogy, language teaching methodology and theatre practice
- Introduction to the Thealingua Method and the “Valise”: worksheets, exercises and activity cards
- Exploring exercises: acting basics, actors’ tools and improvisation
- Practical application: leading an exercise, workshop or session; working on instructions, use of space and learning objectives
- Case studies: strengths, limits and roles of theatre pedagogy in the language classroom
- The Thealinguist pathway: interaction, reflection and conceptualisation
Duration: 5 days (35 hours), in person in France or Germany.
Project support: A second phase provides remote project support with an expert in the method. Three meetings are scheduled with your Thealingua mentor.
A certificate is awarded at the end of the training.

Thealingua works mainly in educational settings, including primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, universities, higher education institutions, language schools and socio-cultural centres.
The projects are designed for a wide range of participants, from children who have developed a basic sense of time — generally from around 8 years old — through to adults.

Funding may be available through the Erasmus+ programme when the course is undertaken as an individual professional training activity abroad.
We recommend contacting the international relations office of your school, organisation or institution to begin the Erasmus+ application process. Please note that you should generally allow 2 to 3 months to complete the application procedure.
The course fee includes teaching time and lunch during the in-person sessions. For in-person sessions, Thealingua will also provide you with a list of partner accommodation options.
